This picture was taken at my senior recital at
East Carolina University. I played music by myself for over an hour! It took perseverance, self-discipline and courage to create this magical performance! Hightlight from our Flashmob to "Get Up & Dance" at the 4th & 5th Grade STOMP
inspired concert last year. |
Why I love teaching music at Hilburn Academy:
When reviewing rests in the song "Bow Wow Wow" with my one of my kindergarten classes we had a very lively discussion about why our doggie put his ears down when there was no music. One student said "The dog put his ears down just like the music when it takes a rest", someone else added "Mrs. G, the music can get really tired...the tempo is just too fast", but another student countered with: "But if the tempo is slow like in a lullaby, then the music can relax."
"So, this guy Louis Armstrong...he pushed through a lot of hard times when he was a kid, and was told he wasn't that smart right and did a lot with this whole jazz thing? I want to be just like him when I grow up, and I don't care that he is dead! He's so cool!"
